Haku: Kattaa aluetta sopivasti.

Free search: Covers the area enough.

Ohjattavuus: Selvittää maaohjauksen melko hyvin. Vesiohjauksesta tulee raskas.

Guided retrieve: Clears the blind on the ground quite well. The water blind requires quite heavy guidance.

Paikallistamiskyky: Näkee heitot, hakee toiseksi heitetyn suoraviivaisesti. Ei onnistu ensimmäisen noudossa.

Marking: See throws, retrieves second mark directly. Can’t complete the retrieve of the first throw.

Riistankäsittely: Pehmentää yhtä lokkia, tuo muut riistat siististi.

Game handling: Soften one seagull slightly, returns others neatly.

Muut ominaisuudet: Häiriintyy toisesta koirasta.

Other qualities: Is bothered by the other dog.

Yleisvaikutelma: Riistaintoinen koira, joka stressaantuu kokeen aikana. Kiinnostuu toisista koirista. Koe keskeytyy riistan käsittelyongelmiin.

General appearance: Game enthusiastic dog, who gets stressed during the test. Is interested in other dogs. Test is interrupted due to game handling problems.

Excuses: Well, we just had to go and see what open class is like, just because we could. The test was quite good and really showed where we are with Luka. For the first time Luka really had to watch another dog working and it clearly bothered him during the marks and in his general behavior. The water blind required quite heavy guidance from Ramin and was clearly at the upper limits of Luka’s current abilities, but we made it. The hard work of the water blind and watching another dog working clearly stressed Luka so much that the third bird in the free search was slightly damages while Luka was packing it in his mouth during the return. Training wise it was a good failed test and we can easily continue on from here.

General appearance: An evenly working dog. Clears today’s tasks very well.

Excuses: No need for them today :) Job well done!

Yleisvaikutelma: Koira suorittaa hyvän hakutyön sekä paikallistamistehtävän, mutta puutteellinen ohjattavuus ja riistankäsittelyn osalla luovutuksissa heikentävät koesuorituksen kokonaisuutta.

General appearance: Dog is good in free search and marks, but inadequate responsiveness to guidance in blind retrieve and faults in game handling reduce the overall performance in test.

Excuses: What can I say – Luka is a flatcoat and wants to complete the blind in the most efficient way: i.e. running along the shore instead of swimming next to the shoreline. It reminded me of the hunt test in Nurmes last year, but this time he did react to my direction better than last time. The problems in game handling were caused simply by over-eagerness, that’s what we get for waiting until near the end of the test season to go for our first start ;)

Yleisvaikutelma: Hyvää, itsenäistä työtä tehnyt koira joka on hieman kovakorvainen.

General appearance: Dog does good, independent work but is a bit hard at hearing.

Excuses: The blonde with ADD didn’t want to go in the given direction in the guided retrieve – he rather wanted to swim back to the marks. Otherwise is was solid work from Luka. Even the free search in high reeds went very well.

Yleisvaikutelma: Tasaisella vauhdilla työskentelevä koira, selvittää helposti haku- sekä markkeeraustehtävät. Valitettavasti tänään ohjaustehtävä epäonnistuu ja pudottaa koiran pois korkeimmalta palkintosijalta.

General appearance: Dog works at an even speed and easily clears the free search and marks. Unfortunately today the guided retrieve fails and drops the dog from the highest prizes.

Excuses: After the failed test in Lappeenranta Luka worked beautifully in Hamina. Unfortunately he swam a few feet away from the guided retrieve game and just didn’t find it. Otherwise it was again a solid performance from Luka.

General appearance: Dog works well in the marks, but problems in the guided retrieve fail the test.

Excuses: It wasn’t the first time that Luka decided to see monsters during a test. This time the common teal that he was supposed to return from the guided retrieve (a big and heavy bird) and various other factors seemed to make him uncertain enough that he didn’t finish the return.

Free search: Searches through the front part of the area, but the rear parts are checked somewhat poorly.

Marking: Sees the birds drop and retrieves them.

Riistankäsittely: Puutteita luovutuksissa osalla riistoilla.

Yleisvaikutelma: Päivän kokeessa koira suorittaa hyvin ohjaus- sekä paikallistamistehtävän, mutta koesuorituksen kokonaisuutta heikentää puutteet riistan käsittelyssä sekä hieman tehoton hakutyöskentely.

General appearance: In today’s test the dog completes the guided retrieve and marks well, but lacks in game handling and somewhat inefficient free search reduce the prize.

Excuses: Luka seemed a bit tired on the way to the test, but it didn’t show in any special way in his work. The guided retrieve and marks were solid work – even though the handler almost caused Luka to miss seeing the first throw of the double. In the free search I finally figured out why the same judge has criticized Luka’s free search. For some reason he is very inefficient in searching through larger areas of rushes. A bit of extra practice should fix this issue. Game handling during the returns has always been a bit iffy with Luka, but after yesterday’s broken bird I didn’t want to take any chances at all even though I knew that possible drops would reduce the prize.

Yleisvaikutelma: Koiran koesuoritus keskeytyy riistan murskaamisen vuoksi.

General appearance: The dogs test is interrupted by the broken game.

Excuses: Well, the day came that Luka broke some game. In the end, he only broke a few ribs when correcting his grip deeper into his long muzzle. So it isn’t a serious problem, just an accident. The guided retrieve was challenging when considering Luka’s class, but he completed the task without problems. So there was that to be happy about.

20.06.2010 Nurmes hunt test

Free search: Does good efficient search in both areas.

Ohjattavuus: Ei ole tänään linjalle lähetettävissä.

Paikallistamiskyky: Suorittaa 1. markkeerauksen kiertäen mennessään rannan kautta, toisen markkeerauksen noutaa myös itsenäisesti, mutta voisi olla hieman suoraviivaisempi.

Marking: Goes around along the shoreline to the first mark. Retrieves the second mark independently but could be more direct.

Riistankäsittely: Pääosin hyvää, osa luovutuksista voisi olla parempia.

Game handling: Mainly good, could sometimes return to hand better.

Muut ominaisuudet: Pysyy paikallaan laukauksissa.

Yleisvaikutelma: Hyvin tänään markkeeraus- ja hakutehtävät suorittava koira jonka palkintosijaa laskee epäonnistunut linjalle lähetystehtävä.

General appearance: A dog that completes both the free search and marks well today, but whose prize is lowered by the failed blind retrieve.

Excuses: Damn flatcoat! :) Well, it couldn’t be helped. Luka saw that there wasn’t anything in the water (during the guided retrieve) and the shore of the bay was so close that going along the shoreline would have surely been faster… And then on the second mark he had to go check the place where the guided retrieve would have ended and then retrieve the mark. He does work well, but unfortunately he has his own set of brains…

07.06.2010 Leppävirta hunt test

Yleisvaikutelma: Aloitta kokeen hyvin, mutta kokonaisuutta heikentää hakutyössä alueen takaosan kattamatta jääminen.

General appearance: Starts the test well, but overall his performance suffers from not covering the entire search area.

Excuses: When starting the test Luka was clearly tired, so I’m not at all surprised that he didn’t cover the entire search area. Of course, if he’d just learn to sleep while waiting for his own turn he might have a bit more energy. Now he’d waited (awake) for 14 other dogs to complete their tests first.
