BOS Ravencrag Explorer & BOB FI CH Noanarkin Mus Musculus

We spent this summer’s first hot day at Mikkeli Show. The judge was Jaana Hartus. Little gentleman Emil did it again and gave his other owner a few good spins around the ring! Emil won the junior class with CQ, was placed as Best male, got his second CAC and was finally BOS! A warmest thank you to Piia Ulvinen for handling Emil today.

Topi’s type wasn’t the type that the judge was looking for today so he got Very good and was placed third in the working class. Note to his handler: when the temperature is more than +25C (77F) one can / is allowed to wear something other than black ;)

Erittäin hyväntyyppinen keskivahva varsin voimakasrunkoinen uros, jolle toivoisin aavistuksen enemmän raajakorkeutta. Hieman voimakaskalloinen pää, jossa kuonossa voisi olla enemmän täytelyyttä. Tasapainoiset kulmaukset. Sujuvat sivuliikkeet. Varsin runsas oikeanlaatuinen karvapeite.

A medium-strong male of very good type that has powerful body. I’d prefer more height in his feet. A slightly strong skull, the muzzle could have a little more fullness. Evenly angulated. Smooth move from the side. Quite plentiful coat with correct quality.

Erinomaista tyyppiä oleva jäntevässä kunnossa esiintyvä, erittäin tasapainoisesti rakentunut nuori uros. Erittäin lupaava pää. Hieman syvällä sijaitsevat silmät. Erinomainen ryhti. Kevyet joustavat liikkeet. Hyvät edestä ja takaa. Erinomainen karva.

A young dog of excellent type and very evenly built that is shown in sinewy condition. Very promising head. Slightly deep-set eyes. Excellent posture. Light, springy movements. Good from front and rear. Excellent coat.

Lovely day at beautiful Hamina Bastioni. Emil won the junior class and got CQ. The judge was Bertil Lundgren (Sweden). Thank you Jenni Juvén for handling Emil so beautifully!

Topi 3rd prize in Workin Test (novice class) & Emil Best male 3 and CAC

Great day for both black ones at Lieksa Group show. Topi got Excellent and was placed 2nd in working class. He also got CQ and was “Best male 5″. Little Emil rocked the day – Junior class winner with Excellent, CQ, Best male 3 and his first CAC!!! The judge was Matti Luoso.

A dog of very good type and size. Lower jaw could be a bit more showy, otherwise good head. Correct bite. Good eye color. Good neckline. Good bone structure and paws. Good forechest. Body could be a bit longer. Appropriate angulations. Good tail carriage. Moves well. Good temperament.

Our local retriever club decided to organize their first ever Working Test in honor of their 30th anniversary and there was no way we could not go to the test. My own experience of WT has been limited to a course that I participated in with Luka and a mock-test at the end of the course. Based on that experience it was clear that working tests are not something to participate in with Luka, so Topi got to start his own test career. We got a could warm-up for the test by participating in a full weekend of training the weekend before (photo taken then). And after a week of some additional training (which went well and poorly), the feeling I had on the morning of the test was that anything is possible.

The test itself was a great experience despite the rain and wind. Topi got a result, even though the test didn’t go as well as it could have. But the most important part of the test, the experience it gave to both the dog and handler was achieved and it gave a good picture on what kinds of issues need focus in training. While at home Topi will often easily accomplish the same tasks as Luka, his lack of experience shows itself as carelessness and over-enthusiasm in tests. So by increasing routine, i.e. training, we should have a much better base in the tests of the summer and autumn.

And finally, the result itself: 3rd prize in novice class with the points 14+9+12+7=42/80.
