Kuuma päivä alkoi varhaisella 04:30 herätyksellä ennen parin tunnin ajomatkaa Jongunjokea kohti. Päivästä oli selvästi tulossa kuuma, jo herätessä oli yli +20°C ja kokeen päättyessä lämpötila oli jo 28°C. Koepaikkanakin oli kaunis mutta paahteinen mäntykangas. Onneksi kokeen hakuruudussa oli helle huomioitu ja vaikeutta lisätty maaston peitteisyydellä samalla matkoja lyhentäen. Kokeen järjestäjille tästä kiitos.
Topin työskentely oli vedessä erinomaista ja hakuruudussa näkyi pienoinen vapaan haun harjoituksen puute. Mutta hakutyö oli enimmäkseen tehokasta ja riistoja tuli viisi perille. Jotain päivän lämpötilasta kertonee se, että hakuruudun päättyessä Topi oli jo täysin kuiva. Ja sitten olikin aika jäädä odottamaan jälkien alkamista.
Jälkien alkua odotellessa Topissa väsymys näkyi jo erittäin selvästi ja itseluottamus loppuikin jäjellä aivan selvästi. Työskentelyyn pitää kuitenkin olla tyytyväinen ja nuori koira teki parhaansa väsymyksestään huolimatta ja lähti aina pyynnöstä tekemään työtä. Topin väsymyksestä kertoo ehkä sekin, että kahden tunnin kotimatkalla pää ei kontissa noussut kertaakaan ja Topi piti kotipihaa ennen herätellä.
Nyt sitten jatketaan treenejä ja katsotaan missä yritetään seuraavan kerran, taipumukset ja työmotivaatio ovat kuitenkin kohdallaan!
A hot that started with an early morning wake-up at 04:30 and continued with a couple hours in the car heading towards Jongunjoki. It was clearly about to be a hot day, when we woke up it was already over +20°C and when the trial ended it was 28°C/84°F. The trial was held in a very beautiful spot, but the pine forest didn’t offer any shade significant shade. Luckily the days heat had been noted and the free search area was shortened by increasing the difficulty of the terrain. We thank the organizers for this.
Topi’s work in the water was excellent and in the free search the fact that we haven’t trained it much was visible. But his search was mostly effective and he brought five birds from the area. It’s quite telling of the days heat that Topi was completely dry by the time his free search task ended. And then it was time to wait for the tracking task to begin.
While waiting for the tracking task to begin Topi’s exhaustion was quite clear and his self-confidence ran out clearly while tracking. But we can be very satisfied with Topi’s work because he is young and he did his best despite his exhaustion and he was willing to obey each command to start working. A sign of his tiredness was that during the two hour drive back home he didn’t raise his head even once and he had to be woken up when we arrived at home.
And now we’ll continue training and see where we will try again, his tendencies and work motivation are perfectly fine!
